Proposed
Plan for the Rehabilitation of Bhadli Village
–as developed by Somaya & Kalappa Consultants
Proposed housing units:
The
three main housing types are designed with 250 sq.ft, 350
sq.ft and 450 sq.ft as the maximum built up area. The first
two modules have a living room and a kitchen, whereas the
last module has two living rooms and a kitchen. Each housing
unit will have a veranda. If an individual owns a larger
plot of land, these units can be combined to form a larger
unit. Each house will be situated on the plot in such a
way as to facilitate future additions by the owners.

Reuse
of material:
A
large number of doors and windows are still in a fairly
good condition, and can be used with some repairs so as
to lower costs. These will also help maintain the character
of the village.
Certain
areas of the courtyard can be paved using available rubble.
These areas can be used to carry out daily activities and
will also serve as a proper pathway in the rainy season.
This rubble can also be used to make raised seating around
trees.
School:
The
primary school for 250-300 children of ages 5-12, studying
in classes I to VII, has been severely damaged and needs
to be rebuilt. The approximate cost of building the school
with a built-up area of 4000 sq.ft. is Rs. 15 lakh. Additional
funding will be required for furnishing the building.
Community
Centre:
A
community centre for Bhadli is extremely desirable. The
proposed activities are: (a) Women's activities: Stitching
and crafts, (b) Indoor games, (c) Reading room, (d) Community
gathering hall, and (e) First-aid and medical facilities.
The built-up area should be approximately 2000 sq.ft. The
approximate cost is expected to be Rs. 10 lakh. Additional
funds will be required to furnish the building.
