Delineated as a heritage precinct, this 'urban village' is characterized by low rise, tiled sloping roofed, elegantly detailed facades of residential cottages set in narrow pedestrian streets that evoke a bygone genre reminiscent of the early Portuguese settlements.
The project was aimed at creating a Conservation Manual for the residents of the area, identifying the elements of their settlement that need to be preserved in order to retain the character of the precinct. It re-assessed the existing listing, proposing changes in the heritage legislation and re-defined the internal zones of the precinct.

Located in the heart of Bombay's busy commercial district , this settlement is facing immense pressures of urban transformation and decay.
Architectural controls specific to the nature of the settlement have been proposed and are in the process of being notified by the Heritage Committee. The project also addresses the issue of public awareness and participation through the publication of a handbook and the creation of a local welfare association. This project is a first step towards the urban conservation and area upgradation of the core precinct.
The High Court is a magnificent Neo Gothic building that dominates the
panoramic view of Victorian structures along the old Esplanade of Bombay.

In 1998, The High Court commissioned The Bombay Collaborative to prepare a detailed documentation and condition survey of the structure and create a management plan for its future restoration.

Apart from creating a long term management plan for the building, the conservation architect included a training component for the PWD personnel, introducing them to the application of conservation techniques like stone consolidation, poulticing, lime repair and non invasive analysis of the historic statues of Justice and Truth which were in a distressed condition.
